
Training for addressing intersectional discrimination among Roma youth: Roma LGBT+ and gender equality
Center Amalipe and Phiren Amenca held the second of a series of trainings that will be held within the YAG project. The training took place in the city of Pécs – Hungary, and was attended by more than 20 young Roma and non-Roma. The training was on “Addressing intersectional discrimination among Roma youth: LGBT+ Roma and gender equality”. The training aimed to increase the capacity of young people to recognize intersectional discrimination among Roma youth. The event took place in the period 14-28 September 2022, organized by Amalipe Center and the International Network ” Phiren Amenca” in the framework of the project “Youth Against Antigypsyism” – YAG, funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme of the European Commission.
During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to get to know each other and work on several key themes: intersectional discrimination, how to be a better ally to LGBTQ+, Roma women and other intersectional movements, . During the first day of the training, led by Joci Márton, Anna Daróczi and Marina Csikós , participants discussed intersectionality as a term and different intersectional discriminations, how we can create valuable alliances between different marginalized communities. Participants had the opportunity to work in groups on each of the topics.
On the second day of the training program, participants discussed intersectionality and diversity among Roma youth and the trainer was Fedorkó Boglárka, who created creative and debate-provoking workshops among the participants.
On the third day, the participants started preparing their posters and banners for the Pride Festival. After designing different flyers and posters, the participants took part in the Pride in the city of Pécs. This is the second Pride organized in the city of Peć, and in this Pride the number of participants was more than 1500 even though the meteorological conditions were very bad.
The training on Addressing Intersectional Discrimination among Roma Youth: Roma LGBT+ and Gender Equality is the second training in a series of trainings that will be held within the YAG project to raise awareness on the phenomenon of antigypsyism and to increase the capacity of young people to fight it.
This training was realized under the YAG project by Center Amalipe, Bulgaria.
