Inspiration and unity: Veliko Tarnovo celebrated International Roma Day with a rich cultural program

On April 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., an educational and cultural event dedicated to April 8 – International Roma Day was held at the Petko R. Slaveykov Regional Library – Veliko Tarnovo. The initiative was organized by the Amalipe Center in partnership with the P. R. Slaveykov Regional Library and the Regional Department of Education – Veliko Tarnovo and brought together students and teachers from schools throughout the region.
The main highlight of the program was the presentation of the book “The House of the White Saivant” by the Roma writer, teacher and educational mediator Atanas Atanasov – Vakavliyata. The guests had the opportunity to meet the author and get acquainted with his work, dedicated to the life, identity and values of the Roma community.
As part of the event, Stefan Stefanov – mediator, presented a multimedia presentation dedicated to the history and significance of International Roma Day. The participants actively participated in an interactive quiz covering topics such as education, culture and traditions, which stimulated interest in cultural diversity and encouraged the participation of young people.
The program also included a student exhibition entitled “My Hometown”. Participants had the opportunity to visit the “Vazrazhdane” Museum for free,

as well as to join a walking tour of the Old Town of Veliko Tarnovo.
The event brought together students aged 14 to 18 from different schools in the Veliko Tarnovo region, regardless of their ethnicity. The participation of young people from different settlements emphasized the desire to build an inclusive educational environment and strengthen intercultural dialogue.
The initiative aimed not only to raise awareness of cultural diversity and the importance of International Roma Day, but also to support educational initiatives that encourage the inclusion of Roma students in the educational process and the academic community. Through various activities and discussions, the event contributed to strengthening intercultural dialogue and creating an inclusive environment for learning and personal development.
The event is held within the framework of the ACADE ME project and is funded by the European Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) program.
