December 1 – International AIDS Day

On December 1, the world celebrates the fight against HIV / AIDS. This year the day is also connected with the motto “Let’s eliminate inequalities. Let’s stop AIDS. Let’s defeat the pandemics “, announced by the United Nations AIDS Program (UNAIDS).

In an effort to draw attention to the problems of HIV / AIDS, in 1988 the World Health Organization declared December 1 World AIDS Day. Since 1996, the United Nations Joint Program on HIV / AIDS (UNAIDS) has been celebrating this day. This marks the beginning of year-round campaigns focused on prevention, education and awareness.

HIV is a major public health problem affecting millions of people around the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated existing inequalities, while creating a number of difficulties in providing services, which poses challenges to the lives of some people living with HIV.
