Educational mediators introduced local communities to the benefits of Bulgaria’s membership in the European Union

During the months of April and May, educational mediators from various settlements in the country held a series of information meetings with parents, young people and representatives of local communities. The initiatives took place in the town of Strazhitsa, the village of Varbovka (Veliko Tarnovo district), the village of Kukorevo (Yambol district), the town of Montana, the town of Novi Pazar (Shoumen district), the village of Ustrem (Haskovo district), the village of Malo Konare (Pazardzhik district) and the town of Shumen.

The meetings were organized with the aim of providing accessible and useful information about the opportunities that the European Union provides to Bulgarian citizens, as well as to encourage active civic participation and knowledge of European values. Through open dialogue and discussions, the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the rights and
opportunities that arise from Bulgaria’s membership in the European Union.

The main emphasis during the meetings was placed on the topic “What does Europe give us today?” The educational mediators presented specific examples of the benefits of European membership, which have a daily impact on people’s lives. The opportunities for free movement within the European Union, the right to work and reside in the Member States, as well as the facilitation of travel to the Schengen area countries with only an ID card, were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to young people and the prospects that the European Union opens up for them. The participants were introduced to the opportunities for training, student mobility, professional qualification, exchange of experience and participation in various European programs and initiatives. The mediators emphasized the importance of education as a key factor for the successful realization of young people and encouraged the attendees to actively seek opportunities for development and improvement.

The meetings also discussed the core values on which the European Union is built – democracy, equality, solidarity, the rule of law, protection of human rights and respect for cultural diversity. The attendees had the opportunity to share their opinions, questions and personal experiences related to life and work in European countries.

The meetings were held with increased interest and activity on the part of the participants. Parents and young people joined the discussions, exchanging ideas and views on the role of the European Union in the development of local communities and improving opportunities for education, employment and social inclusion.

The initiatives carried out showed that when information reaches people in an accessible and understandable way, it creates conditions for greater awareness, activity and engagement in public processes. Educational mediators once again proved their important role as intermediaries between institutions and local communities, supporting access to knowledge, opportunities and resources.

The activities are implemented within the framework of the project “Roma Civil Society Organizations in Support of the Values of the European Union” (ROVA), coordinated in Bulgaria by the Integro Association.
