How did the educational mediators in some places marked Vasilitsa!

Educational mediators from the network of Amalipe Center “Every student will be an excellent student” organized initiatives related to the celebration of Vasilitsa – Roma New Year! For another year, Amalipe Center celebrated the holiday Vasilitsa. And although this year the conditions are different and we cannot make large-scale events in person, we from the Amalipe Center managed to recreate together with the schools virtually how Vasilitsa is celebrated in the various Roma groups. We reminded ourselves how important it is to build bridges between us. And the celebration of the Roma New Year is an ideal occasion for this. We are extremely happy that for another year the educational mediators managed to implement activities and initiatives related to Vasilitsa – the Roma New Year! We also thank all the educational mediators who sent us information so that we could provide it to our readers. Here is how Vasilitsa went in places:

Celebration of Vasilitsa in Hristo Smirnenski High School, Koynare, Pleven region. On January 14, 2021, the students from 1 b class participants in the club “Folklore of the ethnic groups”, led by Mrs. Bistra Banova, survaka the principal Mrs. Daniela Tsonevska for health and success. After that, they visited the mayor of Koynare, Mr. Denislav Dinov. The Survakars received many gifts and coins.
On January 14, 2021. we celebrated St. Basil’s Day with the students from the primary stage at the IV Primary School “Hristo Botev” Lom The children introduced us to the holiday and sang a characteristic, authentic song, which is sung only in this area.
Students from the Primary School “Ivan Vazov” in Simeonovgrad recreated the tradition of Vasilitsa, and then survaka for health, luck and much success in the new year!
The educational mediator Boycho Kochev at the Primary School “VASIL LEVSKI” in the village of KARADZHOVO, presented to the students how the Roma New Year is celebrated, what is the legend and how the whey is made by different Roma groups. And she wished – “HAPPY HOLIDAY TO EVERYONE WHO CELEBRATES! I WISH YOU GOOD HEALTH!”
Tihomir Georgiev from the village of Kravoder also got involved by visiting institutions with a student who has survaka for health!
On the eve of the holiday Vasilitsa, the Roma New Year, Silvia Miteva and Sq. Lazarova, organized meetings with the Roma community in the villages of P. Mogili and Valnari, municipality. N. Kozlevo. At these meetings with children, whey was prepared. Talks were also held about the traditions related to the Vasilitsa and Bango Vasil holidays.
This year, on the initiative of the Amalipe Center, the Educational Mediator – Irena Mihailova, together with a student from Angel Karaliychev High School, survaka the mayor’s team in the municipality of Strazhitsa on January 14, 2021 (Thursday) at 09:30. The mayor of Strazhitsa Municipality Mr. Rumen Pavlov, Deputy Mayor Eng. Georgi Byanov, Deputy Mayor Eng. Katya Petrova, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Ilian Marinov and employees of the administration with an authentic, hand-made survaknitsa were survakan and called for health and good luck on the occasion of the Roma New Year.

On 14.01.21 Educational Mediator from the town of Smyadovo celebrated “Vasilitsa” – the Roma New Year. Emir from 1st grade Survaka, Deputy Mayor of Smyadovo Municipality for Health and Welfare, as well as Dimitrina Marinova and colleagues from the CPC.
On January 14, 2021 in the village of Batak was celebrated the Roma New Year – Bango Vasil. The activities are under project BG05M9OP001-2.018-0014-C01 “Integration of vulnerable groups in the municipality of Pavlikeni”. The event started at the Primary School “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in the village of Batak, where students gave health and prosperity to the school principal Mr. Shenay Nuriev and the teachers from the school. After that, the students gave survakane for health and prosperity and the mayor of the village of Batak Mr. Zenko Marinov. The students also visited the director of the Kindergarten in the village of Batak, Mrs. Bogdana Hadjieva, and the staff of the kindergarten. Other institutions in the village were also visited. Everywhere the children received treats and gifts. Special packages of school delicacies were prepared especially for all survakars. The event was also attended by guests from CIDT “Amalipe” – expert Valeri Angelov and educational mediator Stefan Stefanov. The educational mediator Stefan Stefanov distributed information brochures – on the topic “Did you know that Vasilitsa” – a detailed description of all groups that celebrate this holiday.
CRO AMALIPE Novi Pazar. Moderator: Aldin Stefanov (Karakash) On 13.01.2021. Together with volunteers they celebrated the “Roma New Year”. Girls visited the director of the Vocational High School of Agriculture – Eng. Damyan Nikolov, and gave him health, and he treated them to treats and gifts. After the meeting with the director, information materials were distributed to the local Roma neighborhood in connection with today’s holiday.

On 14.01.2021. the mediator to the municipality of Gulyantsi Nikolay Ognyanov and volunteers to the Amalipe Center distributed information materials about Vasilitsa in the Roma neighborhood of the city. And on the 15th they took part in an online meeting on the occasion of Vasilitsa with Dr. Eleonora Lilova – Chairman of the National Council for Child Protection and the Advisory Council on Children at the State Agency for Child Protection.
With the onset of one of the biggest Roma holidays Vasilitsa-Roma New Year, we from CRO-Byala Slatina celebrated the holiday with an online meeting. Vesselin Ninov, an 11th grade student, told about the customs and the traditional celebration of the holiday in our region, presenting a presentation for St. Basil’s Day. We visited the Labor Office Directorate, traditionally Mr. Ilcho Iliev, director of the Labor Office, was survakan. Happy holiday, be healthy!
