Informational meeting of young people with professors from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”

Center for Inter-Ethnic Dialogue and Tolerance “Amalipe” organizes together with Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” an informational meeting of young people with teachers in an academic environment, which will be held on 15.05.2024 at 12:00 in room 63, south wing of the Rector of the educational institution. Participants in the meeting will be 11th and 12th grade students, young people who wish to continue their education at a university, as well as representatives of Sofia University.

The meeting will be attended by 11th and 12th grade students who will soon become/have reached the age of majority and will accordingly be able to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming EP elections in 2024, as well as representatives of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (Assoc. Dr. Nikolina Tsvetkova, Head of the Department of European Studies; Assoc. Dr. Kaloyan Simeonov from the Department of European Studies, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, as well as representatives of the Student Council).

The main objectives of the meeting are to raise the awareness of students from vulnerable groups studying in grades 11 and 12, who have just received or are about to receive the right to vote for the first time, about the role and democratic values ​​of the EU, the European institutions and their powers. During the information meetings, teachers will explain to the participants in detail the importance of civic activity in the democratic process at the national and supranational level, the functioning of the EP, the decision-making process in the EU and the importance of voting.

The aim of the initiative is for the young people to be familiar with the academic environment and atmosphere at the university and to be motivated, after completing their secondary education and successfully passing the state matriculation exams, to apply to the relevant university.
