Open letter in connection with the racist beating and mockery over the 15-year-old boy from Lyaskovets

Beating a child is always a crime. Beating a child and making fun of him because of his ethnicity is racism and a crime against humanity. They cannot be described in any other way without complicity. We express our deep indignation at the racist beating and the mockery  with 15-year-old Stefan Stefanov, which took place on May 14 in the area of ​​a school in the town of Lyaskovets. This mockery  is not provoked by anything other than the Roma origin of the young man. Like the beating of Mitko from the village of Ovchepoltsi exactly 4 years ago, this is a crime of hatred and should receive collective resistance from all institutions and society as a whole!

Today is June 1! Happy holiday, children! However, no child should live in fear – for life, health, future – no matter the reasons! And even less because of their ethnic origin! Therefore, in such a manifestation we must all be uncompromising – we as a society, the institutions as a guarantor of equality in this society!
