Shared by our partners: Research directions of the University of Craiova (Romania) – scientific perspectives

The main vector that can guarantee national and international prestige and recognition of university centers is scientific research.
In the University of Craiova (Romania), the scientific research activity is addressed to teachers, students, as well as technical staff, being organized and functioning in accordance with the provisions of national and European Union legislation in the field. The research and development activity includes scientific research (fundamental and applicative), technological research, design, expertise, consulting, experimental analyses and determinations.
The main research areas of the University of Craiova for the period 2020-2024 are as follows: Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Humanities and Arts, Social Sciences, Sports Science and Physical Education / Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
Being a composite university, the research directions of excellence cover a large part of the areas of modern research fields.
Thus, the field of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will focus its research on Functional Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, Control Theory and Variational Calculus, Natural and Synthetic Chemical Compounds, Characterization and Applications in Smart Specialization Areas or Theoretical and Computational Physics.
Approaching several areas of research, the field of Engineering Sciences wants to discover new technologies that can contribute to scientific development: Agriculture 4.0. “Smart agriculture” and “smart technologies”, Compatibility / biocompatibility of systems in complex electromagnetic environments.
A new development strategy can also be the substantiation of processes in agriculture, food industry and the creation of new technologies, tools and technical equipment compatible and competitive with the European research area specific to the concepts of sustainable agriculture and food security.
The scientific orientation towards sustainable horticulture, food security, environment and climate change, as well as the discovery of the most advanced control methods with applications in biotechnologies, could influence horticultural research.
Very important are the systems that can be implemented in the field of engineering sciences: Innovative electricity systems to increase competitiveness and transition to green energy; Intelligent distributed systems; Mechatronic systems with applications in medical technology; Integrated technologies and smart and environmentally friendly means of transport.
The field of Humanities and Arts combines research between creation and restoration, Orthodox spirituality and psychotherapy, state and society in modern and contemporary Romania, but will also focus on post-modern trends in current positive law or transfer and interdisciplinarity in theoretical and applied linguistics.
Regional economic development and territorial cohesion, economy, business, society – new models of growth and innovation, perspectives and directions of development of the postmodern curriculum – sustainable development, interculturalism, alternative educational virtual learning are the main research directions of the field of Social Sciences.
The field Sports Science and Physical Education / Biological and Biomedical Sciences orients its analysis towards the evaluation of human motor performance through advanced artificial intelligence methods.

According to the Scientific Research Strategy of the University of Craiova for the period 2020–2024, within the centers of the research fields, it is desired, together with teachers and researchers, to integrate students (bachelor, master and doctorate), young people into research groups, who can access national and international grants and projects.
Therefore, the scientific activity of the University of Craiova carried out within the research centers in all the mentioned fields is oriented towards the development and opening of new directions of science and technology.
In support of the research comes also the project The researchers of the future (project code 1/16.11.2022) funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of Romania (PNRR) won by the University of Craiova (as beneficiary), in collaboration with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova and “Constantin Brâncuși” University of Târgu-Jiu.
