The new composition of the Council for Civil Society Development has been appointed

On its meeting held on July 23, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision to appoint the members of the Council for Civil Society Development (the Council).
The establishment of the Council is provided for in Article 4, paragraph 3 of the Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities (NPLEA). The Council functions as an advisory body to the Council of Ministers with the main goal of developing and implementing policies to support the development of civil society.

The Council consists of 15 members, 14 of whom are non-profit legal entities with a minimum of five years of experience in carrying out activities of public benefit in this field.

The procedure for electing members was conducted during March and April 2025. A total of 162 organizations from across the country participated, covering the main fields of civil society activity. Each organization was entitled to vote for up to 14 NGOs to become members of the Council. Out of all eligible organizations, 150 exercised their right to vote in the election process.

Center Amalipe was among the organizations elected to the Council. Based on the voting process, the Council of Ministers appointed the following organizations, which received the most support from the 150 participating NGOs:

  • Bulgarian Donors Forum (Association)
  • Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (Association)
  • Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation
  • Association of European Journalists – Bulgaria
  • Anti-Corruption Fund Foundation
  • Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation
  • National Youth Forum (Association)
  • Forum for Civic Participation (Association)
  • Bulgarian Fund for Women (Foundation)
  • Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance “Amalipe” (Association)
  • Karin Dom Foundation
  • For Our Children Foundation

What are the activities of the Council for Civil Society Development?

The Council carries out the following activities:

  • Provides opinions on legislative acts, strategies, and programs; participates in their drafting; monitors and evaluates the implementation of the Strategy for Supporting Civil Society Organizations;

  • Analyzes the funding and effectiveness of public resources allocated to civil society organizations; defines priorities and distributes funding for projects of public importance;

  • Supports interaction between national and local authorities and civil society organizations by annually assessing their needs, challenges, and achievements.
