UPCOMING: National Advocacy Conference “The state of Roma educational integration: from segregation to learning in an ethnically mixed environment”, July 4-5, 2022, Sofia

Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance “Amalipe” organizes for the tenth year a national conference on “The state of Roma educational integration: from segregation to learning in an ethnically mixed environment” on July 4 and 5, 2022 in Park Hotel Moskva. The meeting will begin at 10:00 on 04.07.2022 and will end at 17.00 on 05.07.2022 and will be held in Sofia.

The conference is part of the project “No segregation”. During the period November 2019 – October 2022, Center Amalipe and Fundacion Secretariado Gitano (FSG) (Spain) have been implementing the project “No segregation”, supported by the European Commission, DG Justicefrom November 2019 to October 2022. The Ministry of Education and Science in Bulgaria is associated partner to the initiative. One of the key achievements of the project is the mapping of segregation in Bulgaria with detailed information about each settlement. Successful practices for desegregation, prevention of secondary segregation and promotion of studying in ethnically mixed environments in different types of schools were researched, described and systematised.

Objectives of the conference:
  • Presentation of the maps of segregated educational institutions in Bulgaria;
  • Presentation of practical models for educational integration and desegregation at school and municipal level;
  • Policy discussion on actions needed to promote studying in ethnically mixed environments and desegregation: recommendations for the executive, legislature and local government;
  • Presentation of successful examples of educational integration and desegregation in different types of schools (schools in Roma neighbourhoods, schools in rural areas, ethnically mixed schools, vocational schools, etc.)

  • Teachers and school principals from the network „Every student will be a winner“ coordinated by Center Amalipe and supported by the Trust for Social Achievement;
  • Representatives of leading Roma and pro-Roma NGOs from Bulgaria and other EU countries;
  • Ambassadors and Members of the diplomatic corps in Bulgaria: ambassadors from the Groups of Ambassadors on Roma Issues, etc..
    We expect more than 100 participants to attend the forum.

In connection with the National Conference CMEDT “Amalipe” organizes a competition for presentations:

The competition is organized for teachers, principals and other pedagogical specialists from kindergartens and schools

Main accents / topics /:

  • Pedagogical methods and techniques for intercultural education and organization of the learning process in an ethnically mixed environment;
  • Prevention of secondary segregation and challenges for segregated schools – presentation of successful practices for desegregation at the municipal level and at the school level;
  • We break stereotypes or confirm hypotheses – The participation of Roma parents and educational mediators;
  • Challenges and opportunities for high school education: successful models for desegregation;
  • Success stories: introduction of intercultural education – examples and necessary changes

Requirements:
The participants should send their proposals for implemented good practices in the form of developed descriptive material in which they present their experience, as well as conclusions and proposals for its application and multiplication in practice. The materials must be MS Word, font size – 12, line spacing 1.5. The volume of the works should not be less than 4 and not more than 8 pages.

Deadline for submission of works – June 22, 2022.
The presented works will be evaluated by a commission of university professors and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science.
The best proposals will be admitted to the X National Pedagogical Conference “The state of Roma educational integration: from segregation to learning in an ethnically mixed environment.” Approved works will be presented by their authors within 15 minutes.
