„The state of Roma educational segregation: data and practical solutions from Bulgaria and Spain“

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to the Round table „The state of Roma educational segregation: data and practical solutions from Bulgaria and Spain“ organized by Center Amalipe (Bulgaria) and Fundacion Secretariado Gitano (FSG) (Spain). The meeting will take place in on 24 October 2022 in Prague in the eve of the European Roma platform. The event is organized within the frames of the project “No segregation”, supported by the European Commission, DG Justice. The round table will take place nearby Corinthia Hotel Prague where the EU Roma Platform will take place.

Desegregation policy is the key for Roma educational inclusion and one of the priorities in the EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies 2011 – 2020 as well as in the new EU Roma Strategic Framework 2021 – 2030. Serious advance has been achieved in education regarding the reduce of drop-out rate of Roma children during recent years. Nevertheless, an acute problem still existс, namely the educational segregation.

Objectives of the side event:

• Presentation of the maps of segregated educational institutions in Bulgaria and Spain;
• Presentation of practical models for educational integration and desegregation at school and municipal level;
• Policy discussion on actions needed to promote studying in ethnically mixed environments and desegregation: recommendations at national and EU level;

The participants will receive a collection of good practices researched within the project in Bulgarian, English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Romani languages. The participants of the meetings will be school principals and educational mediators; representatives of leading Roma and pro-Roma NGOs from Bulgaria, Spain and other EU countries: participants in the EU Roma Platform and others, etc.
