Roma help Roma

Or how educational mediators support the community with personal finances.

Today’s article is dedicated to educational mediators who not only mentally and physically help families and children, but also financially. We will tell you about how Roma helping Roma. Since the announcement of the state of emergency in the Republic of Bulgaria from March 13 to April 1, an average of 3000 people lose their jobs every day. Overall – up to now, about 72,000 people (according to MLSP) have been left without subsistence for less than a month. These are all those who have worked on contracts in some of the branches of tourism, hotel and restaurant. But our work field, we well know that before he declared emergency rule in the country was extremely poor people from minority groups who make their living by picking seasonal fruits and herbs. With the declaration of the state of emergency in Bulgaria, many families were left without subsistence and without the financial opportunity to provide even minimal food to their families. We monitor the situation across Europe and see how people in vulnerable groups organize themselves and help themselves. This is not only happening in Bulgaria, but in every country! Today we will share with you some examples of how Roma help Roma with the help of educational mediators.

Zlatina Boyanova educational mediator to High School “G.St.Rakovski” city. Kotel.

  • I, as an educational mediator, who daily encounters the problems of students, decided to join the “Old Technique for the New Beginning” initiative by giving one child a tablet / s and two other sisters a second hand laptop to be included in the remote training. Congratulations to all your colleagues on the front line! Now we don’t have to look for students because they have to be home. Now our task is to mediate and help them to engage in training, according to the opportunities that we provide – through some field work, others through guidelines for working with equipment and support their families. Be healthy and happy!

Silvia Miteva, educational mediator from the Amalipe Center at St. Kliment Ohridski Primary School, Pet Mogili village, Nikola Kozlevo Municipality.

  • Shortly before the state of emergency in Bulgaria, a single mother with four children moved to our village. The children were enrolled in the school where I was an educational mediator, and so I began to track the children in school. In early March of their family were discontinued water and electricity supply to the house where they live. So I decided to devote part of my salary with which we maintain in our family to help the woman and the children. Not much, but at least they will have something to eat for a while until they can find a way to help. A good heart is not a craft to learn. It is a birthmark.

Bozhidar Slavchev, educational mediator at the High School for Transport and Light Industry, Rayna Panayotova, Omurtag.

  • As an educational mediator  I must communicate with many families, which in turn makes me recognizable in my community, and when someone needs help turning to me like these  5 families with babies who needed humana, diapers, creams, etc . Thanks to CIDT ,,Amalipe” who supplied 5 families with essentials for their babies. I’m glad that I can be useful to the community. After seeing so many smiles and happiness on the faces of the parents of these children, I decided to look for a way to help more families. So I contacted acquaintances and friends abroad who sent out finances to buy essential food that we distributed to the most needy families.

As we try to help more families, with what they have at their disposal, some of the schools have already received their first donations from the “Old Technique for a New Beginning” campaign organized by the Amalipe Center and Together in Hours Foundation.

Any one of us can be helpful, get involved and be useful!
