Video premiere: An (un) ordinary story
“Nobody wants to pay attention to me anymore, everyone thinks I’m crazy.”
“I’m afraid that if something happens, people will just watch without anyone taking action.”
“I felt alone, I felt offended, crushed, with no one to help me.”
“He beat me to keep quiet, and I kept quiet because of my children, because we had nowhere to go, we had no money. I remember looking for him once, I just needed him and called him to come, but we quarreled over the phone. Then he came home and started beating me in the middle of the street in front of people, hitting me and I fell, over and over again.
These are quotes from victims of domestic violence. Victims who have never shared their stories so far.
Messages:
“To the elderly – You are not slaves, you are human beings who can achieve a lot in this world. Don’t be mocked by your dignity, don’t be afraid, be strong, because you are the heroes of your children! ”
“To the younger ones – Learn, learn, learning will give you freedom, freedom to choose and be chosen. Freedom to dream and make your dreams come true. Do not marry young and do not allow arranged marriages, but be free to love and choose your partner.
On the occasion of November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Amalipe Center gives you the opportunity to see the story of a victim of domestic violence who shares her story for the first time.
The video was made within the project “Let’s turn the page: prevention of domestic violence and harmful traditional practices in the Roma community.” The project is funded by the Public Board of TELUS International Europe in Bulgaria and is aimed at domestic violence against women in vulnerable groups and in some isolated neighborhoods.
