
What is tolerance – a story of good acts
Today is not only about celebrating tolerance, but also about sharing the good, passing it on. That’s why we will share with you the short story of the educational mediator Fatme Arslan from PGTST “Gotse Delchev” in Plovdiv:
“What is tolerance? The ability to understand, accept and respect different cultures in our world, the ability to be kind. Already at the training, when the plan of the educational mediator was in front of me, I had decided that on this day – 16.11., the day of tolerance, I would help people in need.
A week ago I was on a round here in Sheker Mahala in Plovdiv for the first time and I made friends with many people. You already know me and know that I am a sociable person. Besides the fact that we had to solve problems at work I asked them about their pain and if they needed anything I could help them with. This is how I met Albena, a single mother with 10 children, one of whom is a student I was looking for. I promised her that I would help her with whatever I could. After I couldn’t sleep a wink all night after that meeting, I discussed it with my family and we decided to help her as much as we could. My observations were that the family needed warm clothes for the winter.
Today I went to the address to keep my promise and donate anything I thought appropriate. This is Tolerance Day for me-a friend in need is known. And as the song used to say, “We’re all human in this world…
